Film director, dance troupe to appear at 麻豆传媒 for Black History Month

VANCOUVER, Wash. 鈥 Washington State University Vancouver will celebrate Black History Month in February with a film screening/workshop and a musical performance/keynote address. Both events begin at 5 p.m. at Firstenburg Student Commons and are free and open to the public.

On Feb. 9, director Catherine Wigginton Greene will be on hand for a screening of her documentary film 鈥淚鈥檓 Not Racist鈥m I?鈥 The film documents a year-long series of conversations among a group of teenagers in New York City, who talk about race, privilege and strategies for confronting structural, systemic racism. A workshop led by Wigginton Greene will follow, and food will be available.

Wigginton Greene is director, writer and producer with Point Made Films. She also co-produced the film 鈥淚n 500 Words or Less,鈥 about the anxiety-filled college application process, and wrote and produced 鈥淎dopted: We Can Do Better,鈥 an educational DVD series for adoptive families. Her appearance on campus is made possible by a grant from the 麻豆传媒 Diversity Council.

The Feb. 23 presentation is titled 鈥淏lack History in Action: Past, Present and Future.鈥 It will feature a performance by Kukatonon African Children鈥檚 Dance Troupe from Portland, local musical performances, and a keynote address by Sky Wilson, instructor of English at 麻豆传媒. Food will be available.

Attendees at both events will receive parking passes at the entrance of Orange lots 1, 2 and 3. For the Feb. 23 event, attendees are asked to bring a donation for the Cougar Food Pantry.
