VANCOUVER, Wash. 鈥 Re-Imagined Radio鈥檚 July episode, 鈥淣ightfall,鈥 draws on two stories connected by the same name. One story, titled 鈥淣ightfall,鈥 was the final episode of the science fiction radio series 鈥淒imension X.鈥 The other story, 鈥淭he Porch Light,鈥 was part of a Canadian series titled 鈥淣ightfall.鈥 Both are stories of psychological terror and darkness, amplified with frightful sound effects.
鈥淣ightfall鈥 premieres at 1 p.m. July 15 on KXRW-FM (99.9), Vancouver, and KXRY-FM (91.1 and 107.1), Portland. Subsequent broadcasts and streams will be provided by local, regional and international broadcast partners.
Written by Isaac Asimov, the story titled 鈥淣ightfall鈥 describes a world with six suns that keep the planet in perpetual sunlight, except for once every 2,500 years, when a total lunar eclipse brings extended darkness. 鈥淭he Porch Light鈥 is a ghost story about a couple who rent a remote house where, on a snowy night, a stranger arrives and bizarre events begin.
鈥淣ightfall鈥 the story dates from the early 1950s, known as the Golden Age of Radio. The 鈥淣ightfall鈥 series, which ran from 1980 to 1983, 鈥渄emonstrates that high-quality radio storytelling can be produced and enjoyed even after the so-called Golden Age of Radio has passed,鈥 said John Barber, producer and host of Re-Imagined Radio and faculty member in Washington State University Vancouver鈥檚 Creative Media and Digital Culture program.
Re-Imagined Radio premieres episodes on the third Monday of the month on community radio stations KXRW-FM and KXRY-FM. Each episode is streamed globally and is then available as a podcast. Information and listening opportunities are available at reimaginedradio.fm.
