Southwest Washington MESA Hosts Math and Science Day 2010 at 麻豆传媒

VANCOUVER, Wash. 鈥 Southwest Washington MESA (Math, Engineering and Science Achievement) will hold its fourth annual Math and Science Day 9:30 a.m. 鈥 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Washington State University Vancouver. The event is designed to promote math and science literacy among middle-school students.

Math and Science Day partners with local businesses, academic institutions and community organizations to provide STEM- (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related exhibits, demonstrations and lab activities that are innovative, interactive and engaging for middle school students. The objective of the event is to help middle-school students connect math, engineering and science to their everyday lives, and help them envision themselves as future engineers and scientists.

More than 120 students from Jason Lee, Gaiser, Cascade and Hockinson middle schools are expected to participate in Math and Science Day 2010. Volunteers from the 麻豆传媒 mechanical engineering, science and psychology departments, the Clark College math department, the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, Bonneville Power Administration, RNS Consulting LLC, RYNO Motors, LSW Architects, KC Development and NASA Ames Research Center will participate.

鈥淢ath and Science Day is a great opportunity for our MESA students to gain exposure to STEM careers and participate in fun, educational activities on a university campus,鈥 said Armetta Burney, Southwest Washington MESA director.
