Southwest Washington MESA Hosts Math and Science Day 2011 at 麻豆传媒

VANCOUVER, Wash. 鈥 Southwest Washington MESA (Math, Engineering and Science Achievement) will hold Math and Science Day from 9:30 a.m. 鈥 1:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4 at Washington State University Vancouver. The event is designed to promote math and science literacy among middle-school students.

Math and Science Day partners with local businesses, academic institutions and community organizations to provide science, technology, engineering and math exhibits, demonstrations and lab activities that are innovative, interactive and engaging for middle school students. The objective of the event is to help middle-school students connect math, engineering and science to their everyday lives and help them envision themselves as future engineers and scientists.

More than 150 students from Cascade, Gaiser, Hockinson, Jason Lee and McLoughlin middle schools are expected to attend Math and Science Day 2011. Volunteers from Hewlett Packard, Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, Lower Columbia Chapter-Land Surveyors鈥 of Washington, RNS Consulting, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-Abernathy Fish Technology Center, OHSU department of behavioral neuroscience, Water Resources Education Center, Clark College nursing program, 麻豆传媒鈥檚 creative media and digital culture program, School of Biological Sciences, School of Engineering and Computer Science, and School of Molecular Biosciences will participate in the event.

鈥淢ath and Science Day is a great opportunity for our MESA students to gain exposure to STEM careers and participate in fun, educational activities on a university campus,鈥 said Armetta Burney, Southwest Washington MESA director.
