VANCOUVER, Wash. 鈥 Students and faculty at Washington State University Vancouver will present a showcase of their research, scholarship and artwork at the ninth annual Research Showcase April 19 in the Firstenburg Student Commons. More than 90 posters and exhibits of research projects, digital artwork and scholarly publications will be on display from 10 a.m. 鈥 1 p.m. and Carolyn Landel, chief program officer for Washington STEM, will give the keynote address at 4:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Landel is a biochemist with a heart for education. She holds a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology and blends her strong scientific training with her passion for education by supporting state and national science education reform efforts. In her keynote address, 鈥淧aradigm-Changing Partnerships,鈥 Landel will focus on how partnerships can produce powerful learning experiences for students that both inspire and prepare them for the future.
鈥淣ational momentum and local action has created an unprecedented window of opportunity to accelerate student success in STEM,鈥 said Landel. 鈥淥ur kids can鈥檛 wait, and neither can our state. Working together in new ways is the surest way to improve and fund excellent STEM education for every student in our state.鈥
Washington STEM is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Launched in March 2011, it invests in and lifts up breakthrough ideas and promising practices that bridge education and our economy through opportunities in STEM
鈥淭he Research Showcase allows faculty, graduate and undergraduate students to share their collaborative research which emanates from the programs and laboratories of the campus and from partnerships throughout Southwest Washington. Exciting new findings and advances in fields including: environmental sciences, neurosciences, engineering, anthropology, education and creative media among many others, will be presented,鈥 said Bob Bates, director of research and graduate education.

Parking is available free of charge from 2:30 鈥 6:30 p.m. April 19 in the Orange 2 lot. At other times parking is available at meters and in the Blue Daily Pay lot for $3.
