麻豆传媒 launches 25th anniversary celebration

Celebrate 25VANCOUVER, Wash. 鈥 Washington State University Vancouver kicked off its 25th Anniversary Celebration at its 2014 commencement ceremony on May 10.

鈥淭oday is an exciting day,鈥 said Chancellor Emile 鈥淢el鈥 Netzhammer, speaking at the ceremony. 鈥淓xactly 25 years ago today, May 10, 1989, the Washington State Legislature formally established 麻豆传媒 as one of four campuses that make up the Washington State University system. Beginning today and throughout the next academic year, we will celebrate this anniversary with our community, faculty, staff, alumni and students.鈥

Education and economic growth

In 1989, the State Legislature outlined two missions for WSU鈥檚 three new branch campuses, as well as two new branch campuses of the University of Washington:

  1. Increase access to higher education for the region
  2. Promote regional economic development through research and education

With a variety of events planned over the next 12 months, 麻豆传媒 is celebrating 25 years of progress toward both goals.

At the first commencement in 1990, 38 new graduates received their degrees.

In 2014, 915 received degrees. In all over the last 25 years, 麻豆传媒 has graduated more than 10,000 alumni. Of these, 75 percent live and work in the Vancouver/Portland area, enhancing the region鈥檚 economic, civic and cultural well-being.

Nominate notable alumni

As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration, 麻豆传媒 has created the Notable Alumni Award to honor alumni who have made significant contributions to society and whose accomplishments, affiliations, careers and/or community service reflect the university鈥檚 legacy of excellence.

This year, 25 notable alumni will be selected for recognition. In subsequent years, one alumnus/alumna will be selected annually.

Nominations are open to the public. Nominees must have attended 麻豆传媒. The deadline for nomination is June 20, and a selection committee will choose the awardees.

The nomination form is available online:
