Âé¶ą´«Ă˝ Offering Technology Workshops Friday and Saturday

VANCOUVER, Wash. – The creative media and digital culture program at Washington State University Vancouver is offering 10 technology workshops from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. March 2 and 3 in the Multimedia Classroom building, room 111. Workshops are $10 per session or $80 for the entire series. They are open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information and to register, visit .

Workshops will be taught by experienced creative media and digital culture faculty members and will provide hands-on experience in a multimedia lab. The schedule is as follows:

Friday, March 2

“Introduction to Word Press”
9:15 – 10:30 a.m.

Instructor: Nicholas Schiller

Learn the basics of how to develop and maintain a website using WordPress. If you don’t know how to code in HTML, WordPress makes it simple to have your own website.

“Advanced Word Press”
10:45 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Instructor: Nicholas Schiller

Delve deeper into customizing WordPress for your organization’s individual needs. In this workshop you will learn how to manage multimedia content.

“How to Read & Tweak Your CMS’s HTML & CSS (& Why You Should Be Able To)”
12:15 – 1:30 p.m.

Instructor: John Barber

Most web pages, whether constructed with WordPress or otherwise, use at least two computer languages to make pages display content. HTML is used by every browser to layout web pages and their content for proper display. Learn the basics of this necessary language so you can tweak your own web pages.

“Which Content Management System (CMS)? Drupal? Word Press?”
1:45 – 3 p.m.

Do you need a website but do not want to code HTML by hand? If so, this workshop will help you make an informed decision about which content management system (CMS) to use.

“Media for the Near Future: Technology that Will Suddenly Change the World . . . and Your Organization”
3:15 – 5 p.m.

Instructor: Brett Oppegaard

The only constant will be change in the technological landscape of the future. Learn what you need to know about the future of computer technology in this workshop.

Saturday, March 3

“Promoting Your Organization with Facebook”
9:15 – 10:30 a.m.

Instructor: Michael Raddy

A Facebook page offers an easy-to-use space for interaction with your customers/supporters. In this workshop, we will discuss the basics of setting up a Facebook page for your organization and how to make it successful.

“Locating Your Organization with Foursquare”
10:45 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Instructor: Greg Shine

Foursquare is a popular location-based, social media platform that links mobile users to locations in the environment around them. Learn the purpose and function of this “check-in” driven program.

“Google Tools Part I: YouTube”
12:15 – 1:30 p.m.

Instructor: Will Luers

Use YouTube to its full potential. Learn how to upload high-quality video, the importance of metadata, analytics, best practices and an introduction to YouTube's partnership program.

“Google Tools, Part 2: Google Maps”
1:45 – 3 p.m.

Instructor: Will Luers

Explore the possibilities of Google Maps as an educational resource and platform. Learn how to create and share information.

“Improving Your Discoverability with Search Engine Optimization”
3:15 – 5 p.m.

Instructor: Dene Grigar

Find out how to make your website come up first on a web search. Optimize your website in this hands-on workshop.

Âé¶ą´«Ă˝ is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205 and is accessible via C-Tran bus service. Parking is available at meters or in the Blue Daily Pay lot for $3 on Friday. Parking is free on Saturday.
