VANCOUVER, WASH. 鈥 Students from the College of Business and the Collegiate DECA chapter at Washington State University Vancouver recently competed in two business competitions. The students gained valuable experience that will enhance their future careers and brought home a couple of nice awards.

Six 麻豆传媒 students competed in the Collegiate DECA State Career Development Conference Feb. 24 in Leavenworth, Wash. The competition included students from six universities from Washington and British Columbia. Collegiate DECA Chapter President Carrie Shinn won first place in the Retail Management competition, Shaynne Goodwin won first place in the Professional Sales competition, and Peter Olsen placed third in the Human Resources competition. All members of the team, which also included Allen Foster, Brooke Quick and Bernardo Rodriguez, placed in the top five of their respective competitions.
鈥淚t was a proud moment when they announced my name. We were able to meet other business people who came up through the ranks. Many were previous DECA members, and talking to them opened my eyes and prepared me for my future after graduation,鈥 said Goodwin.
Goodwin and Marc Jackson competed at the 14th annual National Collegiate Sales Competition March 3-7 in Kennesaw, Ga. The pair competed in a tournament of sales presentation role plays. Both students competed in the first round and in the wild-card round. Goodwin took first place in his bracket of the wild-card round and advanced to the quarter finals where he performed well, but did not qualify for the semi-finals.
Inaugurated in 1999, NCSC is considered the 鈥淲orld Series of Collegiate Sales. It is the largest and oldest sales role-play competition in existence. It includes 126 competitors from 63 of the top collegiate sales programs across the nation, including Purdue University, Baylor University, University of Georgia and University of Washington.
Ron Pimentel, clinical assistant professor of marketing and associate director of the professional sales program at 麻豆传媒, is the faulty advisor to the Collegiate DECA chapter and coaches the sales teams.
