VANCOUVER, Wash. – Tracey Rushton and Kristen Kadow represented Washington State University Vancouver at the 13th annual National Collegiate Sales Competition in Kennesaw, Ga., March 4-7.
Rushton and Kadow earned their spots on the team by coming in first and second place respectively at the Â鶹´«Ã½ Sales Competition last Dec. 3. They went head-to-head in sales call challenges against 120 of the top students in collegiate sales programs across the nation including Purdue University, Baylor University, the University of Georgia and the University of Washington.
In the first round, Rushton took first place in her bracket and advanced to the quarter finals. Kadow scored third place in her bracket and advanced to the wild-card round. Both performed well in the next round, but did not advance to the championship round. Students from the professional sales program at Â鶹´«Ã½ won the NCSC Championship in 2007.
The NCSC event includes a career fair with 35 corporate sponsors looking to hire top professional sales people. The sponsors included companies such as ADP, Aflac, Hewlett Packard, Liberty Mutual, State Farm Insurance, Verizon Wireless and Xerox. About 70 percent of the students who competed are expected to get jobs with companies like those represented at the career fair.
In April, Â鶹´«Ã½ professional sales students will compete at the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition in Chico, Calif.
Ron Pimentel, associate director of the professional sales program at Â鶹´«Ã½, coaches the sales teams with assistance from other marketing faculty and local sales professionals, some of whom are alumni of the program.
