VANCOUVER,
Wash. – Washington State University Vancouver's Diversity Council
presents the Diversity Film Festival 2010. The third annual festival
runs from Sept. 13 – Sept. 16 in the Multimedia Classroom building, room
6. The festival’s theme is "Women & Diversity: Discovering Place,
Space & Self." Snacks and refreshments will be provided. All
screenings are free and open to the public.

The
selected films focus on the challenges women and girls face as they
seek to establish their place and identity within society. While the
settings and situations are varied, taken together these stories provide
a powerful testament to the collective struggle shared by women and
girls across cultures.

The
films were chosen by the Diversity Film Festival Committee, which
includes Denise Beachum, office of academic affairs, Diversity Film
Festival Committee co-chair; Linda Campbell, College of Liberal Arts;
Jorge ³¢¾±³úá°ù°ù²¹²µ²¹, College of Liberal Arts, Diversity Film Festival
Committee co-chair; and Wendy Olson, English department.

The
committee put out a call for film nominations to Â鶹´«Ã½
students, staff and faculty last year. They also accepted nominations
from the general public through their Facebook page. About 100 films
were nominated and considered for the festival before the committee
defined the theme and finalized selections.

The
Diversity Council adds all screened films to the campus library's
collection. This allows the films to be used in classes and to be
checked out by individual members of the Â鶹´«Ã½ campus community.
The library currently houses DVDs of all films screened during the
first two Diversity Film Festivals.

³¢¾±³úá°ù°ù²¹²µ²¹
believes the Diversity Film Festival will help the community become
more aware of the significance of diversity on and off campus.

"One
of the most rewarding aspects of being involved with the Diversity Film
Festival is seeing how the films have helped our audiences appreciate
and better understand the complexities surrounding multicultural
diversity. These films give us a common forum to discuss what diversity
means to us as individuals and as a society. The Diversity Film Festival
reminds the campus and surrounding community of the importance of
diversity to our institution and region," said ³¢¾±³úá°ù°ù²¹²µ²¹.
