VANCOUVER, Wash. – With the recession behind us will recovery follow? That will be the question on everyone’s minds at the spring installment of Washington State University Vancouver’s 2011/12 Chancellor’s Seminar Series. The lecture, “Economic and Revenue Update: State and Community,” will take place at 11:45 a.m. April 20 in the Firstenburg Student Commons.

Offering fiscal forecast perspectives from both the state and local points of view, the Chancellor’s Seminar Series will feature Bret Bertolin, senior economist for the Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council; John McDonagh, publisher of the Vancouver Business Journal; and Bonnie Moore, director of business services for the Columbia River Economic Development Council.
The spring 2012 lecture will begin with Bertolin reviewing the economic recovery progress of the U.S., followed by a look at the economy and revenue forecast for the state of Washington. Joining Bertolin in the discussion, McDonagh and Moore will concentrate on factors driving local economic recovery in their presentation, “Southwest Washington Snapshot: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
Through his work as senior economist for the Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council, Bertolin has promoted government financial stability by preparing economic analyses and revenue forecasts for the governor and the Washington state Legislature. Highly regarded by his colleagues, Bertolin is well known within the government and outside as an expert on the state’s economy. Bertolin received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Yale University.
McDonagh and Moore both bring local experience to the table. McDonagh has more than 30 years of experience in the newspaper industry. Moore’s role at the CREDC uses her 15 years of extensive private-sector management experience to help drive business expansion in Southwest Washington by connecting businesses with resources for sustainable growth and job creation. Together, their presentation will draw on their wealth of business experience in order to address local revenue concerns.
Held twice a year, the Chancellor’s Seminar Series thoughtfully examines timely topics and extends an opportunity to exchange ideas. The series gathers students, faculty, staff, business leaders, elected officials and community members on campus for an in-depth conversation about a topic of current interest or concern.
