Â鶹´«Ă˝'s Chancellor's Seminar Series thoughtfully examines timely topics and extends an invitation to exchange ideas. The series gathers students, faculty, staff, business leaders, elected officials and community members on campus for an in-depth conversation about a topic of current interest or concern.

The fall Chancellor’s Seminar Series topic is quite timely. President Barack Obama has proclaimed September 2011 National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.

In his proclamation the president said, “Since the 1970s, the rate of childhood obesity in our country has tripled, and today a third of American children are overweight or obese. This dramatic rise threatens to have far‑reaching, long-term effects on our children's health, livelihoods, and futures. Without major changes, a third of children born in the year 2000 will develop Type 2 diabetes during their lifetimes, and many others will face obesity‑related problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and asthma. As a Nation, our greatest responsibility is to ensure the well-being of our children. By taking action to address the issue of childhood obesity, we can help America's next generation reach their full potential.”

The spring Chancellor’s Seminar Series will be held at 11:45 a.m. March 2, 2012. Arun Raja, chief economist, state of Washington; executive director of the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council will be the guest speaker. Raja is responsible for the preparation and presentation of quarterly forecasts of Washington’s economy and General Fund revenues. He will review the economic recovery progress of the U.S. and Washington economies. Raja will then share economic conditions and the revenue forecast for the state of Washington.

The 2011/2012 Chancellor’s Seminar Series is sponsored by Legacy Health Salmon Creek Medical Center. For more information contact Barb Holder at barbrah@vancouver.wsu.edu.
