Council for Community, Engagement, Dialogue and Impact

The Council on Community, Engagement, Dialogue and Impact is made up of faculty, staff, administrators and students. The council provides thoughtful leadership; awards funding for initiatives that expand and strengthen awareness, community and innovation; participates in ethical, constructive and intentional dialogue; and engages in strategic efforts that support the campus .

Vision of CEDI

CEDI envisions a campus where community thrives and all people feel welcome, valued and inspired to grow and contribute to the of the university.

Goals

  • Commitment of council members to share and expand awareness, knowledge and perspectives to build a welcoming campus community.
  • Collaboration with departments, individuals and organizations to achieve a campus experience that values community and engagement.
  • Active engagement of all council members in discussions, working groups and initiatives that support the council’s mission.
  • Fund and coordinate educational initiatives that strengthen community and support the council’s mission.

The Council for Community, Engagement, Dialogue and Impact invites proposals for 2025-26 Impact Grants that foster meaningful connections, open dialogue and expand access and opportunity across our campus.

We are seeking creative, collaborative projects that support the of the university and one or more of the following,

  • Encourage community building
  • Create shared experiences and storytelling opportunities
  • Expand awareness of community needs and experiences
  • Promote dialogue
  • Expand access to resources, tools and spaces for learning and expression
  • Create opportunities for individuals and groups to engage, lead and contribute to the council’s mission, vision and goals
  • Support innovation to improve the human condition

Who Can Apply

  • Students, staff and faculty at WSU
  • Individuals or teams from any discipline or department
  • Collaborative proposals are strongly encouraged

Grant Amounts

  • Awards typically range from $500 to $2,000, depending on scope and impact
  • Funding may support materials, facilitation, outreach, documentation and more

Timeline

  • Proposal Deadline: November 10, 2025, at 5 pm
  • Notification of Awards: November 21, 2025
  • Project Implementation: by June 15, 2026—funds are not available after that date
  • Final Report Due: June 30, 2026

Proposals must include:

A brief project overview

  • Title of the proposed project or event.
  • Full names of the proposal applicant(s)/author lead(s) and affiliation(s). If you are a student or a group of students applying, we ask you to work with an employee at WSU, for example, a mentor, an advisor, or a person who will sign off on your proposal.
  • A 50- to 100-word summary of the proposed project or event that may be used for a news release.

A One-page (maximum) detailed description

  • Briefly describe the opportunity or challenge your project or event is intended to address.
  • State the purpose(s) and/or aim(s) of the project or event.
  • Explain the approach, methods, or strategies: How will the proposal address one or more of the stated objectives of the Council on Community, Engagement, Dialogue and Impact?
  • State the expected positive impact(s) or outcomes of the project or event on the campus and wider community, if applicable
  • Briefly outline the project or event timeline.

A one-page (maximum) detailed budget

  • Include a detailed budget for all expenses. A non-exhaustive list of possible expenses to be included are
    • speaker fees, travel expenses, student technicians, purchase of project or event materials, advertising, taxes and shipping, among others.
    • CEDI suggests an advertising budget of $100 to $200 to increase proportionally with the grant amount being requested, unless advertising is available through another source or advertisement is not needed.
    • Proposals lacking a detailed budget will not be considered.
  • State if your project or event has other funding support. If there are other sources of funding, explain how there is no overlap with the requested funding.

Impact Grant Submission and Timeline:

  • Proposals will be accepted through November 10, 2025 at 5 p.m.
  • Submit proposals in PDF or DOC form as an attachment in an email to The Council on Community, Engagement, Dialogue and Impact at: commcollab@wsu.edu

Notification and Impact Grant Timeline:

  • An email notification on a decision to award a grant will be sent within three weeks of the submission deadline.
  • Recipients of grant awards will receive an informational memo stating the conditions of the grant, including spending guidelines.

Funds must be expended by June 15, 2026. Funds will not be available after June 15, 2026 and no extension will be possible.

  • Grantees will receive a reminder memo for a grant report on the grant impacts or outcomes.
