Juneteenth

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ recognizes Juneteenth, observed each year on June 19. This day marks the arrival of soldiers in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, who announced the emancipation of enslaved people, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Since its first celebration in 1866, Juneteenth has come to symbolize freedom, education, family, community, joy and collective care.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021, the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Observing Juneteenth invites reflection and strengthens community through messages of love and unity.
