National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, observed each March, recognizes the experiences, achievements and contributions of people with developmental disabilities.
Established by presidential proclamation in 1987, this month-long observance brings attention to the barriers people with developmental disabilities may face, while also celebrating their vital roles in our communities. It encourages greater understanding and inclusion, and it emphasizes the importance of creating opportunities for meaningful participation in education, employment and community life.
Through advocacy, outreach and public awareness, the month promotes a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
